If
you’re new to online casinos here’s some
background information to get you started.
Online
casinos, also known as virtual casinos or internet
casinos, are online versions of the casinos of Las
Vegas, Atlantic City and Monte Carlo. They usually
give the same odds and payback percentages as their
bricks-and-mortor counterparts.
Most
casinos require you to download a file and install
the games on your computer. However, at some casinos,
you also have the option of playing “instant-play”
or “Flash” games on a web site in your
web browser.
Online
casinos offer the same casino games that you’ll
find in Las Vegas, Atlantic City or Monte Carlo. Most
include: Baccarat, Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Slot
machines and Video Poker.
Blackjack
is one of the most popular casino card games in the
world, possibily because it is relatively easy to
play compared to poker. As the game is currently played,
a "blackjack" may not necessarily contain
a jack or any black cards at all.
Poker
is quite different from most casino games in that
you play against the other players, not against the
house. The odds aren't fixed -- your chances of winning
depend on your skill and your luck. Because of the
mix of luck and skill, and because poker is a very
social game, Texas Hold'em has become extremely popular
in Europe, the U.K. and in America.
Poker
Tournaments
Poker
tournaments are very popular online. Often, the prize
for the tournament is entry into a real-life poker
tournament like the annual WSOP in Las Vegas. In 2003,
Chris Moneymaker was the first WSOP Champion to have
won his seat at the big event by winning an online
tournament. 2004 winner Greg "Fossilman"
Raymer also won his WSOP seat online.
The
biggest online
gambling news lately has been the development
of mobile gambling. Now that many new mobile phones
have a built-in internet browser and access to the
internet, casino games are being developed for the
mobile platform. You can now play your favourite casino
games on your mobile phone or PDA. On a mobile phone,
instead of going to a "www" web site you
log on to a "wap" mobile site designed especially
for your phone. The games are almost the same as you'll
find online and you can access your account to deposit
or withdraw from either your phone or your computer.
Signup
bonuses
Pretty
well all online casinos offer a signup
bonuses to new players when they make their first
deposit. Casinos will match new players' first deposit
from 10% to 100%. Of course there is always a cash
limit and they do require you to wager a certain amount
before you can cash out.
Deposit
Bonuses
On
the Strip in Las Vegas, casinos are generous with
complimentary meals and accommodations. An online
casino can't exactly serve you a free drink while
you play though! What they can to though is give you
cash bonuses on your deposits. Shop around because
regular deposit bonuses vary greatly.
The
Progressive Jackpot
Slot
machines and video poker games often offer a progressive
jackpot. A portion of every wager goes into the
jackpot pool. At online casinos, thousands of players
all around the world can be connected to the same
progressive jackpot to the jackpot can get very big
very quickly. Once
a player wins the jackpot, the jackpot resets to a
preset minimum level.
Legality
of Online Gambling
While
online gambling is completely legal in the United
Kingdom and most of Europe, the United States passed
legislation intended to limit online gambling last
fall. Last October 13th President Bush into law the
Safe
Port Act. Attached to the Safe Port Act was a
provision known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act (UIGEA). UIGEA
states that "unlawful internet gambling"
means to place, recieve, or otherwise knowingly transmit
a bet or wager by means of the internet where such
bet is unlawful under any law in the State in which
the bet is initiated, recieved, or otherwise made."
In other words, the legislation makes it illegal for
payment processors to take deposits for online casinos.
Although
many online casinos and poker rooms no longer accept
Americans as customers, there are many that have found
alternative methods of taking deposits and are open
to Americans as usual.

Is
it better to stick with one slot machine or

Do
players like slots just because they're easy
to play? Or are big jackpots what make online
