Gambling News
One
of the hottest trends in online gambling is the move
to mobile phones and PDAs. Phones are better and cheaper,
data rates are going down all the time -- and lots
of leading online casinos are developing WAP sites
and offering real-money gambling for cell phones and
handheld computers like the Blackberry and iPhone.
Here
are some recent mobile gambling stories:

Casino Games Pioneer Offers Free Slot Machine Ringtones
Free Money Available to Take Mobile Slots for
a Spin
June 19, 2008
Slotland.com,
one of the first online casinos to offer real-money
slot machines on mobile phones, has produced two special
ringtones for ardent slots players. Until the end
of June, players that download the free ringtones
are eligible to win cash prizes. For slots fans that
haven’t tried any of Slotland’s six mobile
slot machines yet, there’s even free money to
take them for a spin.
There
are two polyphonic ringtones currently available.
One is kind of funky, the other has a more laid-back
island sound. Both chant the slots player’s mantra
“Spin, spin, win, win”. Just like Slotland’s unique
mobile slot machine and video poker games, both ringtones
are compatible with all popular phone models. Each
is available in a variety of file formats including
MP3 and MP4.
“Your
ringtone says a lot about you, they’re quite a personal
statement,” said John Lancelet, Slotland’s mobile
casino games manager. “If you play slots you know
you have to believe that the very next spin could
be a win. We tried to capture that idea in the ringtone.
If you’re an avid online slots player, this is for
you!”
The
free ringtones can be heard and downloaded online
at www.slotland.com/ring.html.
Most players will want to download them directly to
their phones though, and should go to wap.Slotland.com
on their phone’s internet browser for simplest installation.
Until
June 30, 2008, mobile games players can enter to win
one of ten $50 cash prizes by sending the full lyrics
to the ringtones to support@slotland.com. Contest
details are available at www.slotland.com/ringcontest.html.
Slotland.com
now has six games available for mobile phones. The
newest is Treasure Box, a unique slot machine similar
to multi hand video poker games that has long been
one of the most popular games on Slotland’s web site,
especially with more experienced players. It’s the
only slot machine that allows players to hold the
reels after each spin in order to affect the result
and get the best potential return. Slotland’s mobile
games are described at www.Slotland.com/mobile
and can be played at wap.slotland.com.
Like
all their online games, all Slotland’s mobile games
are tied into the same progressive jackpot, which
is frequently hit for well over $100,000. After an
$88K win in May, the jackpot is six figures again
and, as always, could be won on the next spin.
Spin3
to Offer Three Card Poker
April
7, 2008
Intuitively designed and
easy-to-follow, 3 Card Poker is Spin3's latest game
to hit the mobile casino market.
Leading full service mobile gaming
solutions provider Spin3,
powered by Microgaming, the world's largest online
gaming software provider, has launched a new 3 Card
Poker gambling game for mobile phones. Spin3's latest
game demonstrates their leadership in the mobile gambling
industry and in providing total mobile gaming solutions
for the casino sector.
3 Card Poker is a popular table game
in land-based casinos around the world because it
is easy to learn and fun to play. Played with a standard
deck of 52 cards that is shuffled before each game,
3 Card Poker consists of two games in one -- the Pair
Plus game and the Ante game -- which can be played
together or as individual games.
The launch of 3 Card Poker on Spin3's
interactive platforms follows the recent launch of
Pub Fruity, and joins classic games such as Roulette
and Blackjack as well as slot and scratch card games
in Spin3's growing mobile casino games portfolio.
Matti Zinder, Head of Spin3, says:
"Spin3 is committed to providing the very best
quality and variety of mobile casino games to its
clients. Our 3 Card Poker game is easy-to-follow because
it is intuitively designed and comes complete with
terrific graphics. With 13 mobile casino games, Spin3
is at the forefront of developments in the mobile
casino industry and offers one of the most compelling
portfolios of mobile casino games around."
3 Card Poker will be available to
Spin3 customers currently utilising the GameWire™
platform for their mobile casino systems over the
next few months.
Skill-based
Slot Machine Now Available for Mobile
October
10, 2007
Treasure Box, a game of
strategy similar to video poker,
designed for new generation of players
Slot
machine players that enjoy games requiring skill and
strategy love Slotland’s popular Treasure Box and
now they can play the multi-line slot machine on their
mobile phones and PDAs. The new mobile
version of the Treasure Box online slot machine
is the sixth real-money game available on Slotland.com’s
WAP site. This month, Slotland.com is giving players
$20 just to try it.
Slotland.com has 13 games online and
Treasure Box has always been one of the most popular,
especially with more experienced players. It is the
only slot machine that allows players to hold the
reels after each spin in order to affect the result
and get the best potential return. Treasure Box is
a unique style of slot machine similar to multi hand
video poker games. Players are presented with four
sets of three reels. When the lever is pulled, the
bottom reel set spins. Players can hold the result
on any or all the reels. Each payline with a bet on
it can win. By examining the pay table, players can
learn to make the decisions that will yield the highest
potential return on each spin.
Mobile games are introducing new players
to traditional games like slot machines and video
poker.
“Our mobile games are increasingly
popular, that’s for sure,” said Slotland’s John Lancelet.
“But it’s not just our regular players that are switching
to the mobile games. It’s people with cool mobile
phones looking for something fun to do with them.”
The
Online
and Mobile Slots Player Survey that Slotland.com
conducted this summer showed that although most survey
respondents were long-term players at Slotland.com
only 20% of them played the mobile versions of their
favourite games much or at all.
Apparently it’s a whole new generation
of games players that’s discovering traditional games
– and a fun new way to play with their phone. The
new Treasure Box for mobile will appeal to players
that enjoy games of skill and strategy.
A
graphical tour of Slotland.com’s new
mobile slot machine, Treasure Box, is available
at www.slotland.com/mobile.
Mobile phone users can install and play the new game
by going to wap.slotland.com in their phone’s browser.

Poker
Pro Phil Hellmuth Goes Head-to-Head With Cell Phone
Users
July 25, 2007
With
the tech world still abuzz after the launch of the
iPhone three weeks ago, a new mobile phone application
is set to steal Apple's thunder. UltimateBet pro Phil
Hellmuth today announced the launch of Texas
Hold'em 2007 with Phil Hellmuth (www.helmuthholdem.com),
a follow-up release to the best selling mobile poker
game, Texas Hold'em by Phil Hellmuth.
"I'm amazed at how crisp and clear the new poker
game looks on a cell phone," said Hellmuth. "Not
to mention the ease of play and the new options ...
it's cutting edge."
The
new version of the poker game by Oasys Mobile brings
to the table realistic 3D graphics and a feature that
allows Texas Hold'em players to create their own custom
avatars. Fans of the poker game can also search for
their friends and chat with players at a table, bringing
the game even closer to a real world experience.
Launching
an enhanced version of the software this year is more
than fitting. On June 11th, Hellmuth captured his
record-shattering 11th WSOP bracelet after winning
a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event. That win makes Hellmuth
the only player in poker history to have earned 11
WSOP bracelets. Days after his WSOP bracelet win,
the UltimateBet pro was inducted into the Poker Hall
of Fame. Needless to say, 2007 will no doubt go down
as a milestone year for Phil Hellmuth.
Today,
Texas Hold'em aficionados can hit the tables and go
head-to-head with the world's best poker player from
the convenience of their cell phone.

Slotland.com
Increases Seed Jackpot After Record-breaking $179K
Jackpot Win
Jackpot, available to both online
and mobile players, re-started at $50,000 and already
well over $100,000
May
9, 2007
After
their famous progressive
jackpot was recently hit for an all time high
of $179,166, Slotland.com/mobile
has increased the jackpot seed for their frequently
hit progressives to a whopping $50,000. A player known
as TOPNOTCHED was playing the Golden 8 slot machine
when he hit the amazing jackpot. His win surpassed
Slotland.com’s previous jackpot record of $163,114
last March.
This
time when Slotland re-set the progressive jackpot,
they doubled the usual jackpot seed money from $25,000
to $50,000. Since TOPNOTCHED’s record win, the
progressive jackpot is already well over $100,000.
“Doubling
the starting amount means that jackpots will build
higher in a shorter period of time,” said Hannah
Morante of Slotland.com. “Even when jackpots
occur within weeks of each other, all winners will
be guaranteed a minimum win of $50,000 -- double the
previous jackpot starting value.”
When
Slotland.com first went online in 1998, jackpots were
started at $10,000. A few years ago, as the popular
slot machine
and video poker web site’s player base grew,
the starting jackpot was boosted to $25,000. Slotland.com
has earned a reputation for fairness and integrity
– and for having the best selection of unique
slot machine and video poker games – so its
membership has continued to grow.
“We
noticed that no one complained last time we increased
the jackpot seed!” mused Morante, “Now
we have so many players all over the world that we’re
able to raise it again.”
Slotland.com
had three jackpot winners this time last year and
ended up with seven more by year-end. While the increased
starting value won’t necessarily mean more winners,
the jackpots will most certainly be bigger.
The
progressive can be played on any of the nine unique
slot machines and video poker games on the Slotland.com
web site. All five games that are also available on
mobile phones and PDAs are also tied into the same
progressive jackpot, so the next big winner could
be at their computer or anywhere they take their mobile
phone.

Nokia
95 Best Phone for Mobile Gaming
The Nokia 95 is the best choice for mobile gaming
according to Slotland.com’s reviews, which weigh
up a combination of gaming capacity, connectivity,
screen size, other features such as cameras and cost.
The
review states that a good gaming phone needs to be
Java-friendly so it can run the mobile gaming applications,
with reliable connectivity also being an essential
component. The Nokia 95 has both.
“Phones
come with various assortments of bells and whistles
these days,” said John Lancelet, Mobile Services
Manager at Slotland.com. “If you like to play
slots or video poker on your phone you may be more
interested in the size of the screen than whether
or not it has GPS or even a camera.”
Since
launching its first mobile phone slot machine in the
autumn of 2005, Slotland.com/mobile has brought online
casino gambling games, such as slot machines and video
poker to the mobile platform, whilst also catering
for PDAs.
The
site comes with instructions on how to get started
as well as offering a range of games.
